Development of controlled directional drilling for production drilling and spinoffs thereof Passed
Tuesday May 28, 2024 16:10 - 16:30 Conference hall
Exhibitor: LKAB
Speaker: Mikael Forslund
Controlled directional drilling based on coiled tubing technology enables seamless drilling and eliminates the need of shifting drill rods. It will also deliver real time data. This data can be used both to optimize the ongoing drilling process and the blast process that comes afterwards. Controlled directional drilling will enable a new drill pattern for the production drilling. A new design with curved holes and parallel sections in the top that will improve fragmentation when blasting. This will lead to increased yield of ore from the mining process. One spinoff from this development is a surveying system, the Wassara Explorerâ„¢, that can perform accurate positional surveys and generate live data to the operator. This system can be used in all types of applications such as mining, ground engineering, dams and geothermal.
