Industrialization of hydrogen based direct reduction process Passed
Wednesday May 29, 2024 15:45 - 16:05 Conference hall
Exhibitor: LKAB
Speaker: Joakim Winsa
LKAB presents how scale-up and industrialization of Hybrits pilot plant is being executed. The HYBRIT technology has the potential to reduce Sweden’s total carbon dioxide emissions by at least ten percent. This is equivalent to one third of the emissions from the industry and may, in the future, help to reduce emissions from iron and steel production globally. HYBRIT is conducting trials on the direct reduction of iron ore pellets using hydrogen in our pilot plant in Luleå, Sweden. The trials will run during 2020-2024, starting with fossil-free hydrogen in spring 2021. The plant has a direct reduction shaft, where the reduction takes place, and a number of electrolyzers for the production of hydrogen using fossil-free electricity.Visit Hybrit which is one of our fieldtrips.

Joakim Winsa has worked with projects in various positions in the mining industry since 2010. Mainly within LKAB, but has also made an excursion to Boliden and then Hybrit (also here as a project manager). Moved over to LKAB when it was time to industrialize Hybrit's pilot plant and work today as a project manager.
