E-Waste – A Sustainable Source of Critical Raw Materials

Tuesday May 28, 2024 15:45 - 16:05 Conference hall

Exhibitor: Metso Sweden AB

Speaker: Richard Lindh

E-Waste materials generated from the end of life electrical and electronic goods are increasingly viewed as an important resource, whilst simultaneously enabling waste and environmental concerns associated with the responsible disposal of these materials to be addressed. This presentation discusses technical aspects relevant to the environmental footprint associated with the metallurgical processing of sorted e-waste, including consideration of solid waste, liquid and gaseous emissions that may be generated during the process. In addition, the opportunities to maximise value creation by recovering as many valuable products as possible is discussed. With the energy system transformation and net-zero objectives coming into increasing focus, the sourcing and efficient use of so called “critical raw materials” is now seen as strategically important in many countries and e-waste can be a rich source of these elements that are crucial to our modern way of life
