Presentation
The Arctic Water Excellence AWE aims to find new technological solutions especially for the use of water-intensive industry and the water supply sector. The aim is to promote the development of new technologies related to water treatment and management. These challenges will be addressed by testing and piloting alternative technologies both in laboratories and in real-world conditions, in cooperation with participating research institutes, SMEs, and industrial sites.

In relation to water-intensive industry, the project focuses on the following current water management development needs in the mining industry:

- Development of intelligent environmental monitoring and water management systems
- Improving the efficiency of sulphate removal and developing the utilisation of the resulting rejects
- Development of metal removal processes and selective metal recovery
- Enhancing nitrogen removal in cold conditions
- Development of rapid water analytics and monitoring methods for process and emission control
- Development of cost-effective circular economy filter solutions for leachate and stormwater management in industrial sites and disused mines
